| Frequently Asked Questions |
 | |
- What's the difference between TESOL, TEFL and TESL?
There does seem to be some confusion out there, particularly since these terms are used interchangeably. Here are the distinctions: TEFL- Refers to teaching English as a "foreign" language, which presumes you are in a country whose first language is not English. For example, if you are teaching English in Korea, you are engaging in "TEFL". Alternately, "TESL", which stands for Teaching English as a Second Language" would be, for example, teaching English in country whose first language is English, such as the United States or Canada. Now, TESOL, which stands for "Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, is an umbrella term that encompasses both kinds of teaching-TESL and TEFL. Our certificate is a more inclusive "TESOL" certificate.
- Does your TESOL course guarantee me a job?
We cannot guarantee that you will find a job, since employers look for other qualifications as well. We can guarantee, however, that after completing this course you will have the skills, knowledge, and confidence to be able to walk into any ESL/EFL classroom and do a great job. As with any job, your credentials will get you in the door; we can provide you with the skills, confidence, and certificate; the rest will be up to you (Don't worry, we have a whole study unit in the course about how to set yourself up for success).
- Can I get college credit for your course?
Upon successful completion of the TESOL course, you will receive a "certificate of completion" stating that you have completed a course consisting of a specific number of hours. As such, the certificate is not credit-based, which makes it unlikely that it would be accepted as such. As always, we recommend that all prospective students check with the appropriate governmental agency, current and/or potential employers and all appropriate parties to assure our educational programs will meet his or her needs prior to enrolling. If you have any specific requirements, please don't hesitate to e-mail us to get more details about how our TESOL Teaching Certificate can meet your needs.
